Somalia: The failings of negotiation protocols and the development of corruption

The last few months have been insightful, I have had the opportunity to meet and converse with a number of government officials including some who are my peers from Somalia. Some came with optimism, some looked weary and drained, and some just looked bewildered. Nevertheless the resounding consensus was that the political system was stagnant and fraught with uncertainty. This was to be expected as the last two decades and a half of political turmoil set the present stage. I took it upon myself to understand why the system was not functioning as envisioned, or was it fulfilling its purpose of intentional design. I also knew that this course of action was going to ruffle few feathers, nevertheless I did not intend on holding back my line of questioning. Either way I believe that this form of inquest is healthy and necessary for the further development of our Neanderthal type of governance, no disrespect intend to the older Homo sapiens. As always I started with questions conc...

Somalia: A Vicious Cycle of Tribalism and Corruption

The powers that be have hired a new Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed.  As per the usual the never-ending debacle has surely began. Somali politicians numbering in the millions the world over are all lining up to praise or condemn the new man on the guillotine.  In the last few hours I have read more statuses on the subject than I could process. The underling theme is either hate or extreme jubilation, the combatant shattered democracy grinds along. Yes that is what it is, two warring camps that have commenced the battle. The fight is based on tribalism and the hope and prayer for serious nepotism on behalf of the new man.   All the while I am forever weary of the evil sublime method in the way neocolonialism keeps its agenda hidden amongst the natives of my continent.  No one is actually seeing the elephant in the room. The Somali government is infested with corruption yet gains more and more funds. The international donors are lining up with their int...

INGRAINED MENTALITIES

Revolutions grow from the seeds of persistence

As a young African I made it a mission to learn and understand my position while also reflecting on my continents history. What I still can't comprehend is how my lands hold the largest amount of natural resources on the planet yet my people are the most impoverished and uneducated population on the face of the earth. The truth is something every African considers but doesn't have the courage to  accept. As a continent we gained our independence from the colonial powers that shackled and tortured us for centuries only to rush into another form of slavery, namely corporate democracy. Today we are at the mercy of three main factors that directly or indirectly control every aspect of our daily lives. The first is the economic imperialism that takes our precious resources in exchange for crippling interest loans and the promise of infrastructure. You can pretend that this is not the case, but reality is something that shows itself to you on every corner of this continent. The secon...

The Disposition Of A Slave

I want to share with you a few instances of current history. This is not for the masses, just for the few to whom the happenings of the present is clear. For those who have the courage to see and hear, as the majority are blinded by induced fear. And for those who turn a blind eye just because they really don’t care. We live in a time where ignorance has come of age, this is human records that you will never find in a shared page.  Before I proceed, I am not a racist just incase you feel the urge to judge me and add me to another list. I hate the African parrot more than his white trainer, and I make this statement without any form of pleasure. Polly sells out his people not because of odium but because he is morally empty. I must hand it to the white man he takes my resources with the simplest promise of plenty. My ignorance and manufactured animosity makes this complex system look so easy. During the proxy wars of the seventies and eighties, confront the white man and he...

Forgotten Thoughts

The need to write is something innately given, be it on paper or on my impending future. Everything in life is conditional, love or loss; we are ever flowing through the streams of our emotions. The one sitting in a cell truly knows he is within a prison. The one wondering through life serving another’s purpose knows nothing of his situation. He beats his own drum, how pretentiously sweet sounds the symphony of a puppet on a string. The union of mind, eyes, ears, heart and soul advances thoughts of a clear nature. Distracted by my own senses, I don’t need chains, now I shackle myself willingly. It’s easier to live online than on land. Spring, autumn, and winter it’s all the same in your moments of personal disappear. Don’t ponder it comes naturally if you care, and they ask you, why the alertness. As if to say why toy with time, don’t stress yourself its only human. Before breakfast comes the news of conflict. Beyond the seas and oceans or even as close as next to me. ...

Awaiting Tomorrow

I am filled with hunger and raw desire, to explain further I am like an unborn child nestling in the cradle of his mother, awaiting delivery out of this misery, please understand my words so you can journey through my comprehension, every human’s terminology is like an extension of their being, awaiting tomorrow and of peace whether awake or sleeping I am constantly dreaming. I live my life one day at a time, awaiting just a little piece of mind, never succumbing to failure, even if I reside in a world where the slave rules the master, does that sentence make you wonder? To put it plainly you choose your dictator, on the pretence of servitude to you as the holder of power, once you have signed your life away you become nothing more then a dirty puddle of rainwater, to be stepped in or skipped over. After all we have seen and heard do you await a branch of peace held in the beak of a white bird. The way I see it all these governments are business entities, and the trut...

Half Priced Deception

Security means we invest tax money in weapons while you remain ignorant and hungry. You see the truth is we oven bake your perception and let your taste buds tell you it’s nothing but your own creation.  You see if I told you of my intellectual capacity you would consider me vain, so you were taught to think because wisdom to the oppressor signals the coming pain. You would rather praise a black man for singing offensiveness that contaminates your children’s brain, or glamorise a woman for exposing her soft tissue. Apparently that is the definition of liberty; but if a woman covers her beauty it is an abomination that causes an issue. You see the young must not be educated, because if they are who do you think would be the target if they retaliated. To control the masses the mentality must be eliminated so even those who strive to be educated must study something we have doctored. The fluoride in the water and the multitude of drugs on the market will keep the rest of the...

Falsehood Love

I always hear the proclamation of affection, Somalia, Somalia everyone claims to love her, yet once you take a look at her, withered is her frame and structure, so bad is her vital signs that if you were fortunate to know her from way back, you would struggle to recognise her, hopeless her and her children, destitute and hunger ridden. Like a plague victim she shunned, as her touch is diseased, only the blood of the innocent appeases her soil, yet we talk and talk while the land continues to rot and spoil, our fondness only resonates in our throats, bleating ignorance and foolishness like wild mountain goats, clashing heads for the sake of short lived bravado, while the future generations of our people live and grow under the devil’s shadow. So let the truth be told and let me share with you what my chest refuses to hold, my people are intelligent and bold, yet religion, land and culture so cheaply we have sold, the educated seek disconnection, the ignorant seek further dest...

But we can only change things from the inside

I pack my bags again this weekend; I have always enjoyed traveling because of one important factor. It’s never been about the bustling airports or the usual hype that comes with such a journey. On the contrary the whole business of travelling in today’s heightened security checks has been somewhat unpleasant to me. I seem to fit all the wrong descriptions, leading to my extra scrutiny. At first I used to be offended, eventually I accepted that in many ways it ended up giving me peace of mind. Traveling has been one of the biggest self-educational mediums in my life. To see and witness different cultures and places so distinctive to mine has by far trumped any other experience in my life. This weekend I travel back to London after almost 10 months in Africa, this journey like all others challenged my way of contemplation on different aspects. The conclusion thus far riddled my senses; I finally understood how naïve my peers and I have been for so long. Today without hesitation I c...
